The Log Variables toolbox item will log the value of one or more variables at a given time in the workflow which will be shown on the execution log, and can be used in multiple steps throughout the workflow.

These are commonly used for debugging workflows.
Pre-requisites
Variable to log - you must have the desired one or more variables configured that you wish to log.
Step - to use this item form the toolbox you will need to have a step on your canvas into which to drag it
Configuring Log Variables
1. Click on the toolbox tab of your workflow canvas
2. Select the Log Variables option and drag onto the step in which you wish to place it
3. Click on the Log Variables item you have dragged onto the canvas to add in the configuration
4. Enter in the configuration for the toolbox item

The id of the work item to wish you want to link this prepare document task. Note: This should also match the context of the document template |
Task Title | Enter the name of the task as it will appear in the users work list. You are able to use variables here to insert data if required. |
A note on approvals
In many scenarios documents need to be approved before they can be sent out. Although this can be configured with the workflow modeller the best practice for this is to configure the Approval Workflow against the document template. For more information view Working with Approvals.
