Installing the Word Add-in

ShareDo Autodoc

It is imperative that the ShareDo Autodoc function is disabled before the Word add-in is used.

Due to the different methods used to embed metadata into Word documents, any documents drafted using the Word add-in may be liable to corruption if ShareDo Autodoc is enabled.

Install Prerequisites

  • Note that, as with all Office Add-ins, the ShareDo add-in requires the correct combination of Operating System, Office, and Web browser to run effectively.
This link details what is required:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/add-ins/concepts/browsers-used-by-office-web-add-ins
  • Ensure that you have permission to install from the Microsoft App Store—your IT department may have disabled or blocked this function.
  • The oAuth client needs to be configured via ShareDo Admin. This will be automatically included in the Coresec deployment prior to the Add-in release.
  • For Office 2016 users
Note that Microsoft's mainstream support for Office 2016 formally expired in October 2020:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/microsoft-office-2016
However, slicedbread will continue to support integration with the ShareDo add-in provided
    • the Office 2016 subscription model is Retail, and not Volume Licensing.
    • at least one service pack update has been applied. The minimum version required is 16.0.12527.22079.

How To Install The ShareDo Word Add-in

The ShareDo Word add-in can either be installed from within Word itself or from Microsoft App Source (https://appsource.microsoft.com/).

NOTE: Regardless of how you install the add-in, you will require access to the Microsoft AppSource store. Since your IT organisation may restrict access to this, you should contact them in the first instance if you find this is the case.

Installing From Microsoft App Source

To install the ShareDo Word add-in click the following link:

https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-gb/product/office/WA200003450

Installing From ShareDo

Navigate to the Document Admin function in ShareDo. A link to the Microsoft Office Appstore is presented:

Once you are on this page, click the “Get it now” button. Once you have clicked this, you will need to sign in to AppSource with your Office 365 username and password.

Once you have done this, you will be directed to your Office 365 admin portal to complete the installation.

Installing From Microsoft Word

An alternative method of installation is to install the add-in directly from Word.

First, locate the Add-ins menu option on the Word Ribbon bar (it is usually under the Home tab or occasionally under the Developer tab).

Once you have clicked on this icon you will be directed to the Store. Search “ShareDo” and you will find the relevant Add-in.

Click Add to install the Add-in.

Opening The Word Add-in

Once you have installed the Word Add-in it will be available at the far right of your Home toolbar in Word:

Click the icon to open.

TOP TIP: To make full use of the ShareDo Word features you will often need more space for the Add-in to work in. You can expand the window by hovering over the border until a left/right arrow appears. Drag the arrow left or right to resize the Add-in window.

Logging In To Your Sharedo Instance

The first time you login to ShareDo it will ask you to specify the URL to your ShareDo instance.

ShareDo will remember this the first time you enter it, and you will not be asked to enter it again on subsequent logins.

Upon clicking “Login with your ShareDo Account” you will be presented with a screen requesting you grant access to your ShareDo account to the Word. Click “Yes, Allow”

Once you have logged in you will be presented with the Home Page. The Home Page will contain links to common actions (these are dependent upon your persona). You can also access these actions from the menu.

Depending upon your ShareDo security settings you will remain logged into ShareDo for as long as you are active or for a period of inactivity. If you wish to logout click:

Working With Multiple ShareDo Instances
