Scorecards

Overview

Feature updated in ShareDo v7.5.0.

ShareDo scorecards are an extremely powerful part of the platform. A scorecard is a way of measuring a matter characteristic based on any number of weighted input variables. Anything that can be assessed based on several weighted attributes can be represented by a scorecard: success likelihood, risk profile, importance to you, etc.

As an example: Consider these two litigious cases from a claimant perspective:

  • Case 1: The defendant does not deny liability, there are witnesses (albeit not overly persuasive/credible) and good documentary evidence.
  • Case 2: The defendant denies liability, but there are credible witnesses and no supporting documentary evidence.

An experienced lawyer reviewing these files would assess the likelihood of winning by combining the facts, but would almost certainly give higher weighting to the availability of credible witnesses and/or supporting documentary evidence than to the defendants’ admission of liability.

If we wanted to estimate and display ‘success likelihood’ as an attribute of a ShareDo matter, we would create a scorecard for this as follows:

  1. Define a list of questions that we consider as material to assessing the outcome (e.g. per the above, witness availability, witness credibility, documentation, etc.).
  2. To each of these questions, apply a relative weighting number.
  3. Establish what the ‘best’, ‘worst’ and ‘average’ scores are based on modelling several different combinations of answers. As a simple example, you may find that a score of 100 equates to a great chance of success, 1 is an almost certain loss, so somewhere in the middle is 50.

Once the scorecard has been configured, as the matter’s data is captured (or more specifically, as the data that makes up the scorecard criteria is captured), the scorecard will start calculating a score.

Example risk management scorecard

If and when data changes during the lifetime of a work type, the scorecard’s score might change. ShareDo maintains a full chronology and audit of any changes to the scorecard so that users can see when and why scores changed.

There are many uses for the output of scorecards:

  • As a visual indicator when someone opens up the matter within the application.
  • As a trigger for automation. You could, for example, set automation rules that escalate work to senior staff when scores exceed (or fall below) certain values.
  • As an analytics tool. At what point, and why, do scorecard values change? Can we use this knowledge to our advantage going forward?

Scorecard Widgets

The Risk Management view shown in the image above was built with the following widgets:

The widgets allow users to update the values.

Configuring scorecard widgets that need to show zero values

There is a Show Zero Values toggle in both the Scorecard - Score and Branding and Radar - Scorecard Summary widgets. When the toggle is disabled, the customisable No Score Found Message will be displayed if the score value is zero.

If the message is left empty, the default “No score found” message is shown instead.

Zero values and the relevant band will be shown when the toggle is enabled. This is useful for showing zero risk.

Feature Configuration

This feature allows you to configure scorecard templates, their metrics and bands, and what scorecard to use for which work types. You can also preview a scorecard.

Access this global feature at LaunchpadOpen ModellerGlobal FeaturesCase. Search for Scorecard.

Edit existing scorecard templates by clicking the gear icon, or create a new template by clicking Add.

The image below shows the Risk scorecard template being edited.

Basic Settings The basic settings let you configure the scorecard details. Here you set the name, description, icon, and colour. You can also enable or disable the scorecard here.
Bands Add or edit the minimum and maximum value bands in this section.
Metrics The metrics used to make up this scorecard are defined here. The details section includes the metric score weighting and its type, e.g. a slider. The Configure metrics blade also shows the metric's values and which scorecards it is related to.

Scorecard Preview

Use the Preview button on the scorecard ribbon to see and test the scorecard. The preview screen has a calculator button on the ribbon, which allows you to calculate the total based on various inputs and shows the band that the total falls in.

Scorecard Work Type Configuration

Assign scorecards to work types using the subfeature blade.
