Introduction video to business intelligence in ShareDo

ShareDo presents actionable insights in a number of places and through a variety of methods:

  • Via contextual ‘radars’ within ShareDo user screens. ShareDo screen can have a small set of KPIs embedded within it to show key information to the user of that screen at that point in time.
  • Via specific dashboards accessed through ShareDo's framework.
  • Via embedded Microsoft Power BI reports.

Underpinning this is the ShareDo data warehouse.

Sharedo Data Warehouse

All actions and data that are performed via ShareDo are stored in a central operational database. This database is then “projected” in near real-time into the ShareDo data warehouse. The ShareDo data warehouse has been designed to pull over insightful information but keep all sensitive information secure in your operational database. The data warehouse is optimised for analytical reporting and is based on a snowflake schema design. This warehouse is then available for client-specific reporting via any SQL-compliant tool, although ShareDo provides some richer features for Power BI and Power BI embedded.

Sharedo And Power BI

How is the data sent to Power BI from the data warehouse?

Power BI uses various methods to send data to the online Power BI Service. We recommend using Enterprise Gateway or ExpressRoute for most scenarios; however, for clients where data security policies do not permit the hosting of their warehouse data outside of their environments, we can also use Direct Connection with Analysis Services Gateway. Data within Power BI is held in line with Microsoft Online Services Terms. Currently, data is held in Microsoft’s Dublin data centre with a backup node in the Netherlands; however, this is shortly due to change to a UK-based data centre (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/regions/).

The following link gives an overview of Power BI Security and contains a detailed whitepaper on all aspects of Power BI security implications and architecture.
