| Audit | The audit log now records what people do with documents on a work item. Previewing, downloading, opening, deleting, uploading and renaming a document each create an audit entry.Until now, the audit log on a work item recorded when a document was generated, but not when someone previewed, downloaded or deleted it. From Clio Operate 7.13, each of these actions creates an entry that shows who acted, when, on which document and in which repository. Compliance teams and supervisors can use the entries to see who viewed a sensitive document, or who removed a document from a matter. What's new or changed
How to use itOn a matter, select More > Audit, then filter the Audit Log by Event. Select an entry to see its details. See [LINK: Document actions in the audit log. Add the link after this article is published.] Setup and prerequisites

| Chronology | Clio Operate 7.13 adds a list view to the Chronology, with free-text search, a new Filters panel and saved views. Time entries can also display in the Chronology, and cards display the total time recorded against their work item. The Chronology records everything that happens on a case. On cases with a long history, finding one entry was slow. There was no search, so users relied on the browser's find function. The filter panel took up a large part of the screen, and the timeline displayed only a few entries at a time. This release is the first stage of the Chronology enhancements. It helps users find and review entries faster. For example, a costs team can scan many entries in a table and filter to entries with documents or recorded time. They can then save the filters that they use most. What's new or changed
How to use itOpen a case and select Chronology. The Chronology opens in List view. Use the Search... box and the Filters button above the entries. For details, see Understanding the Chronology and [LINK: Search and filter the Chronology. Add the link after this article is published.]. Configurators can find the widget, list and time settings in Chronology. Setup and prerequisites

| Documents / Workflow | The Prepare Document action in visual workflows has a new optional Context work item field. The field sets the work item that a generated document is about.
Every document template has a data context, which is the type of work item that supplies the data for the document. Until now, the Prepare Document action could set only the parent work item. Clio Operate then searched up the parent hierarchy for a work item that matched the data context of the template. This search worked when the data context was the parent or one of its ancestors, such as a matter. The search could not find a work item outside that hierarchy, for example one of several telephone calls on a matter. What's new or changed
How to use itSet Context work item when a document is about a different work item from the parent. For the steps, see Prepare Document - Workflow Toolbox. Setup and prerequisites

| Fees | Fees has had a major rewrite. The fee template designer, the widget on the work item, the section types and the versioning model have all been rebuilt, time recording now carries charge-out rates, and fees can be written off.
Fees in Clio Operate has been rebuilt rather than enhanced. The concepts carry over: a fee template still controls the fees that can be charged for a type of work, and a commercial model is still that template in use on a work item. Almost everything around those concepts has changed. Three things drove the rewrite. The old module was hard to configure, so the template designer has been replaced with one that previews the result before it is published. Fee templates held no charge-out rates, so time recording could capture how long a piece of work took but not what it was worth. And fees could not be recorded in a way that a bill could later pick up. That last point is the reason this release matters beyond Fees itself. Recording fees correctly is the first step towards billing them. The billing wizard follows, and several things introduced here, in particular the billing status on a fee actual and the tax rate on a template, exist to support it. Firms new to Fees have less to do
A site starting from scratch has no legacy fees to consider. A site upgrading from an earlier version of Fees has migrated data to review, and the Upgrade impact section covers what to check.
What's new or changedFees has been rebuilt rather than enhanced. The concepts carry over, almost everything around them has changed.
What you need to act on
Upgrade impact below carries the detail behind all three. How to use itEverything you need to know about fees covers the three areas in full: building a fee template, making it available on a work type, and what a fee earner does with the result on a matter. See also Rate cards, which covers the rate cards that fee templates draw their amounts from, and Understanding Time Recording. Modeller Assistant covers how to run the upgrade job named under Upgrade impact. Setup and prerequisitesOrder of work
Also needed
Permissions to grantGrant the estimate and fee actuals read permissions to anyone who needs to see the fee screen on a work item. Grant the revise permission only to the people allowed to re-quote, because it reopens an estimate that was locked deliberately.
For full details see Everything you need to know about fees. ⚠️ Upgrade ImpactRun the Assistant job firstFee template elements used to reference goods and services by legacy id keys. They now use a compound key. A Modeller Assistant job converts them:
Until it has run, fee template import is blocked, with an error rather than a warning. The block applies if either the incoming package or the target environment still holds elements on the legacy keys, so a firm cannot import anything until the conversion is done. Run it through Modeller Assistant in the same way as any other upgrade job.

Configuration that has gone or moved
Data that changes on upgrade
Migrated fees are editable A fee with a billing status of migrated bypasses the usual restriction on editing. Ordinarily a fee can only be edited when its state is Draft or Revising and its billing status is unbilled or migrated. RetiredThe Fees Radar widget has been deprecated, along with its sub widget. Any site still using it needs to take it into its own client plugin.

| List Views | End-users can now resize, move, freeze and hide list view columns from the column headers. Sorting is also clearer, with sort buttons at the top of the column menu.Until now, end-users could change a list's columns only through Choose columns in the burger menu. The sort options sat near the bottom of the column menu, below any filter options. The header did not show which columns could be sorted. Each column header on a list view that allows user customisations now has a Personalise section in its menu. For example, an end-user can widen a description column or freeze the reference column on a wide list. Each end-user's changes apply only to their own view of the list. What's new or changed
How to use itFor the end-user steps, see Using List Views. For the configuration settings, see Configuring List Views and List View Column Properties. Setup and prerequisites

| Regional Settings | Clio Operate 7.13 adds three Canadian time zones and updates its time zone rules for the 2026 change in Canada. From 1 November 2026, British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Manitoba stop changing their clocks.Until now, the time zone lists in Clio Operate had no Canadian entries. People in these provinces used Pacific Time (US & Canada), Mountain Time (US & Canada) or Central Time (US & Canada). These entries follow the US clock change. From 1 November 2026, they display times one hour wrong for the four provinces. Clio Operate 7.13 also updates the time zone rules that the server and the browser use. The update includes rule changes since 2020 in other parts of the world, for example Mexico, which no longer uses daylight saving time. What's new or changed

| Repository Explorer | The Document Repository Viewer now names the files and folders you are about to delete in its confirmation dialog. When you delete more than one item, the dialog lists them, and it warns that deleting a folder also removes everything inside it.Until release 7.13, the Document Repository Viewer asked a generic question before it deleted a file or folder. The dialog did not name the item, so it was easy to confirm the deletion of the wrong file, or to delete a folder without realising that its contents would be removed too. From Clio Operate 7.13, the confirmation dialog names each item you are about to delete and shows its icon. When you delete a folder, the dialog warns that the deletion is permanent and removes all of the folder's contents. What's new or changed
How to use itWhen you delete one or more files or folders in the Document Repository Viewer, check the item names in the confirmation dialog, then select Yes to confirm. For the full steps, see Document Repository Viewer. Setup and prerequisitesNo configuration is required to receive the improved confirmation dialog. The Delete action appears only if your administrator has enabled deletion for the repository, and you have permission to delete documents. |

| Workflow | Configurators can now add notes to the canvas of a visual workflow. Notes explain a workflow to other configurators and do not affect how it runs.
Until now, configurators who wanted to annotate a visual workflow added a Placeholder action to a step. They typed the comment into the Action name field, and the comment could only sit inside that step. Notes sit on the canvas, outside any step, and hold formatted text. For example, you can use a note to explain why a branch exists, describe a group of steps, or record outstanding work. What's new or changed
How to use itDrag Note from the Toolbox tab onto a blank area of the canvas. Select the note, then enter the text in the Note field on the Properties tab. For full guidance, see Note - Workflow Toolbox. Setup and prerequisitesNo setup is needed. Notes are available in every visual workflow. You need access to Modeller > Workflows. Before you use notes, consider the following points:

| Workflow | The visual workflow canvas has new ways to create and reuse steps. You can drop an action onto an empty area to create a step, and you can duplicate, copy, paste and delete steps and actions. In earlier versions, an action had to go into an existing step, so configurators added an empty workflow step first. The canvas also had no way to copy a whole step. To reuse one, configurators added a new step and set up each of its actions again. From Clio Operate 7.13, the canvas creates a step when you drop an action onto an empty area. You can also duplicate a step with all of its actions, then change only what differs in the copy. For example, if a workflow sends the same reminder at two points, configure the first step, then duplicate it. What's new or changedCreate a step by dropping an action
Duplicate, copy and delete
Setup and prerequisitesNo setup is needed. The changes apply to visual workflows for every configurator who can edit them. The canvas highlights a step when you drag an action over it, but displays no highlight over an empty area. If you release an action outside the step that you intended, Clio Operate creates a new step. Clio Operate deletes a step or action straight away. It does not ask you to confirm, and the canvas has no undo. To reverse a deletion, close the workflow before you save. Closing discards every unsaved change. |

| Workflow | A new Remove participant block in the visual workflow toolbox removes a participant from a work item. The block refuses to remove the last holder of a mandatory role.Until now, workflows could add participants with the Add participant block, but they could not remove one without a script that called the API. The new Remove participant block does this as a standard toolbox step. For example, a workflow can remove an insurer from a matter after a claim settles. A workflow can also remove a participant that an earlier step added for a temporary purpose. What's new or changed

What's new or changed
How to use itIn the Condition field, place the cursor where the variable goes, select Insert variable tag, then select the variable. See Using If in a workflow - Workflow Toolbox. Setup and prerequisites

| API | The Offers and Account Adjustments public APIs did not add additional participants |
Fixed an issue where additional participants passed in an Offers public API request were not added to the created offer. The Account Adjustments public API had no way to pass additional participants. Both APIs now add the participants in the request's participants array to the created work item. |
103740 | |
| API | Public DMS API requests failed when a folder path contained an ampersand |
Fixed an issue where a request to the public DMS endpoint /api/v1/public/workItem/{workItemId}/dms/{path} failed with a 500 error when the folder path contained an ampersand (&). The endpoint now accepts ~AMP~ in place of the ampersand, which is the same convention that the repository browser uses. Note: encode the ampersand as ~AMP~. An ampersand encoded as %26 is still rejected. |
140047 | |
| Approvals | A nested task type on an approval step reverted to the top-level type |
Fixed an issue in the approval steps editor where a nested task type, such as Approval - Fees Write-off, reverted to the top-level type after saving. The reset happened when the approval type supported only one root task type. The selected task type is now kept when the step is saved and reopened. |
143882 | |
| Comments | Bullet points in comments displayed incorrectly |
Fixed an issue where bullet points in comments displayed incorrectly. Disc bullets disappeared after saving, no bullets displayed in edit mode, and circle and square bullets displayed outside the comment or table cell. Bullet points of every style, including nested lists and lists in tables, now display correctly in edit mode and after saving. |
141210 | |
| Data Composer | The context browser blade displayed Confirm and Cancel buttons when opened for information only |
Fixed an issue where the Data Composer context browser blade displayed Confirm and Cancel buttons when it was opened only to browse fields. In that case, the blade now displays a single Close button. |
139481 | |
| Data Composer | Data Composer queries that read bank account details could fail or return incomplete data |
Fixed an issue where a Data Composer query that loaded several related items, such as participants' bank accounts, could fail or return incomplete results. Symptoms included errors, requests that never returned, missing bank accounts or participants, access denied for a permitted user, and masked personal details. In some cases, the bank account details were returned but no audit record was written. Data Composer now finishes loading each round of data before it processes the results. |
144989 | |
| Data Loading | The data load statistics popover displayed the Ignored count in red |
Fixed an issue where the statistics popover for a data load displayed the Ignored count in red, bold text, like the Failed count. The styling error happened when one object type had both failed and ignored records. The Ignored count now displays as plain text. |
12934 | 134444 |
| Data Loading | A user load failed with a primary key violation when the person matched an existing record |
Fixed an issue where a data load failed in the Users scope with a primary key violation. The failure happened when an incoming person matched an existing person by external reference, and that person already had a user account. The load now recognises the existing user account and does not insert it again. |
16169 | 142601 |
| Data Loading | Data loads processed key dates before tasks |
Fixed an issue where data loading processed the Key Dates scope before the Tasks scope. Key dates that belong to tasks in the same load could therefore load before their tasks existed. Tasks now load before key dates. |
143777 | |
| Data Loading | Unloading a data load left behind some of the locations that the load created |
Fixed an issue where unloading a data load did not remove some of the locations that the load had created. The problem affected locations loaded on their own, and locations added to a person or organisation that matched an existing record. The problem also affected locations that a participant role referenced as its address. Unloading now removes these locations, and keeps locations that existed before the load. |
16172 | 143850 |
| Data Loading | The key dates bulk loader hid database errors |
Fixed an issue where the key dates bulk loader discarded some database errors, such as deadlocks, during a data load. The load could appear to succeed, or report a misleading foreign key error instead of the real cause. The loader now reports these errors in the data load screens. |
17504 | 145222 |
| Document Management | Cloning a template and its pack source created a duplicate template file in the repository |
Fixed an issue where cloning a document template together with its template pack source document saved the template file twice. In NetDocuments, the repository held two copies of the file. In Office 365, the file had an extra version. Cloning now saves the template file once. The fix applies to all document management providers, including NetDocuments, Office 365 and iManage. |
12518 | 135156, 142120 |
| Documents | Generating a document failed when the recipient's name contained a forward slash |
Fixed an issue where generating a document failed when a value in the file name, such as an organisation name, contained a forward slash (/). Clio Operate treated the slash as part of the folder path, so it could not find the generated document. The slash no longer affects the path, and the document generates and saves to the repository. |
122457 | |
| Documents | Selecting Activity on the Document Management blade displayed a NotFound error |
Fixed an issue where selecting Activity in the Document Management navigation of a matter blade displayed a NotFound error. The Activity blade now opens from the matter blade. Where no work item is available, the Activity option is hidden. |
13518, 16660 | 130456 |
| Documents | Pressing Enter in a Create time entry document action closed the document template |
Fixed an issue in Document Admin where pressing Enter in the duration field of a Create time entry action closed the document template without saving. Pressing Enter now keeps the template open. |
138253 | |
| Documents | Creating a Content Block or clause from selected content in the Word add-in displayed an error |
Fixed an issue where the Word add-in displayed an error when a user created a Content Block or clause from selected content. The error read "Unable to complete the operation. Sharedo may be unavailable", and the block was not created. Existing blocks displayed Invalid date as their last published date. The add-in now creates the block and lists each block with its version and last published date. |
14483, 17067 | 140722 |
| Documents | Cloning a document template and its pack source created two versions in SharePoint |
Fixed an issue where Clone Template and Pack Documents in Document Admin saved the cloned pack source document twice. In a SharePoint repository, the second save created two versions of the document. The clone now saves the source document only one time. |
142118 | |
| Documents | An empty section in a document bundle produced incorrect page ranges |
Fixed an issue where a bundle section with no documents produced a reversed page range, such as 5-4, on the title page or index. The page ranges of every later section were also shifted. Empty sections are now handled correctly, and every section displays its correct page range.
⚠️ Upgrade Impact: the same fix changes how repeating tables and repeating sections render in all generated documents. Test templates that use nested or empty repeaters after upgrading.
|
142419 | |
| Documents | Truncating a long file name removed its collision suffix |
Fixed an issue in File Naming where truncation could remove the timestamp or hash suffix that collision handling adds to a long file name. The problem happened when one rule enabled both collision handling and truncation. Two documents could then receive the same file name. Truncation now keeps the collision suffix and the file extension. |
143465 | |
| Documents | Template type descriptions in the + New menu ran off the edge of the menu and could not be read |
Fixed an issue on the template pages in Document Admin where the description under each template type in the + New menu did not wrap. The text ran past the right-hand edge of the menu, so most of it could not be read. Descriptions now wrap onto extra lines on the Document Templates and Multi Party Templates pages. |
143896 | |
| Documents | Long document titles ran outside the toast message when creating a PDF |
Fixed an issue where a long document title ran past the edge of the toast message that displays after the user creates a PDF copy of a document. Toast text now wraps inside the message box. The fix applies to all toast messages. |
143916 | |
| Emails | Boolean fields in an email template's question set could not be selected |
Fixed an issue where a Boolean field in a question set on an email template could not be ticked. Selecting the field had no effect and displayed no error. Boolean fields in email question sets now work in the same way as in document question sets. |
15084 | 140188 |
| Finance | A hierarchical Chart of Accounts segment could be saved without a parent segment |
Fixed an issue where a Chart of Accounts segment with Value Validation set to Hierarchical could be saved without a parent segment. The chart of accounts was then structurally invalid. The Parent Segment field is now required for hierarchical segments, and Save and Save & Close are unavailable until it is set. |
118908 | |
| Finance | The budget transactions log list view displayed an unhelpful error on pages without a work item |
Fixed an issue where the budget transactions log list view displayed the error "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: input" on a global portal. The list view needs a work item context, which pages such as global portals do not have. The error message now names the missing context. |
May affect 15476 | 125180 |
| Finance | Attachments on information-only budget accounts did not display a badge count |
Fixed an issue on the Schedule of Claim budgets page where an attachment on an information-only budget account saved correctly but displayed no badge count. Information-only budget accounts now display their attachment badge count, in the same way as other budget accounts. |
125182 | |
| Finance | A payment request transaction type was missing when Always on Form and Allow Multiple Instances were both off |
Fixed an issue where a payment request transaction type was missing from the list for adding transaction items. The problem affected types with Always on Form and Allow Multiple Instances both turned off. The transaction type is now available in the list, and can be added one time. |
137893 | |
| Finance | A payment request with no transaction currency stopped the payment request list view loading |
Fixed an issue where a payment request could occasionally save transactions without a currency, and the payment request list view then failed to load. If a transaction is saved without a currency, Clio Operate now sets the correct currency on the server. Note: the fix applies to new saves. To correct an existing payment request, find it with advanced search, open it, and save it again. |
15629, 16773 | 143742 |
| Finance | Hourly rate cards offered job role source options that had no effect |
Fixed an issue where Charge Out Rate and Internal Cost Rate cards displayed a Job role source setting with three options. Clio Operate prices time from the standard job role only. A card that used a custom job role source was therefore ignored, and no error displayed. The Job role source setting is now hidden on hourly rate cards, and new hourly rate cards use the standard job role. The Rate Cards public API accepts Standard as the only roleSource value. |
149365 | |
| Import/Export | Event Engine roles could stay stopped after a configuration import |
Fixed an issue where Event Engine roles stayed stopped after a configuration import if the operator left the Solution Import Wizard before the import finished. The roles now restart automatically when an import completes. If an import fails, the user who started it receives a notification with next steps and a link to Event Engine Configuration.
⚠️ Upgrade Impact: a successful import no longer asks whether to restart Event Engine roles. After a failed import, the roles stay stopped until an administrator restarts them.

| Import/Export | Configuration exports did not include template source files that were added as attachments |
Fixed an issue where a configuration export did not include document template source files that had been added as attachments. Templates imported into another environment then failed to generate. These source files are now exported with the correct path.
⚠️ Upgrade Impact: if a saved export set includes one of these source files, remove it and add it again from the recommended dependencies. The re-added file name starts with
documentPackAttachments:. |
143202 | |
| Integrations | PDF documents downloaded through the Medics Network integration were blank |
Fixed an issue where PDF documents downloaded from Medics Network to a matter displayed the correct number of pages but no content. The integration read every download as text, which corrupted PDF files. PDF documents now download intact and open correctly. |
10350 | 125213 |
| Integrations | Desktop and command-line OAuth clients could not sign in to Clio Operate |
Fixed an issue where native OAuth clients could not sign in. Examples are desktop and command-line AI tools that connect through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). These clients use the authorisation code flow with Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE) and have no client secret. Clio Operate now accepts a sign-in from such a client if the client has no secret in Clio Operate. These clients also use a different port each time they start. A redirect URI on the loopback address, for example http://127.0.0.1/callback, now matches on any port. If the client uses both 127.0.0.1 and localhost, register each one separately. In Admin > Integrations > Manage Identity Server, an Authorisation code flow client with Enable Proof Key for Code Exchange turned on no longer needs a client secret. The Client Secret field is hidden for this client. When you save a client like this, Clio Operate removes any secret that it had. The upgrade itself does not change existing clients. |
150941 | |
| Integrations | The client permissions search displayed only 10 results and the list did not scroll |
Fixed an issue in Admin > Integrations > Manage Identity Server where the Client permissions search for a client app returned only the first 10 matches, and the list did not scroll. Permissions further down the list, for example Sharedo - Create - Task, could not be found or added. The search now checks all permissions, sorts the results alphabetically, and displays up to 100 results in a scrollable list. If more than 100 permissions match, a message asks the administrator to refine the search. |
132497 | |
| Key Dates | A workflow could create a key date that displayed as Unknown Date |
Fixed an issue where a workflow could create a key date whose type was not associated with the work type. The Plan widget displayed the key date with the title Unknown Date. The workflow no longer creates a key date when the work type has no association with that key date type. |
115605 | |
| Key Dates | Selecting a key date on the Plan widget repeatedly opened several blades |
Fixed an issue where selecting a key date in the Plan widget opened a Key Dates blade each time, so a double-click opened two blades. Participants opened from the widget had the same problem. Each item now opens a single blade, however many times it is selected. |
136492 | |
| List View | Pasting a long value into a list view filter broke the list view |
Fixed an issue where pasting a long value into a list view column filter displayed the error "String or binary data would be truncated". The list view then stayed unusable for that user until the filters were reset. Text filters in list views now accept up to 250 characters. |
126400 | |
| List View | The Icon column in a list view displayed the icon without its text |
Fixed an issue where a list view Icon column that uses the Text with icon formatter displayed only the icon. The text appeared only in exports. The column now displays the text with its icon. |
134478 | |
| Menus | Closing a menu command confirmation dialog with X ran the command |
Fixed an issue where selecting X to close the confirmation dialog for a menu command ran the command, in the same way as Yes. Selecting X now cancels the command, in the same way as No. Settings from one confirmation dialog also no longer carry over to the next confirmation dialog on the same page. |
17827, 14246 | 139076 |
| Modeller | Modeller Assistant listed advisories that could not be actioned |
Fixed an issue where the Modeller Assistant listed advisories about legacy finance widgets in user menus for work types that had been deleted. These advisories could not be actioned. The advisor now checks only the user menus of existing work types. |
14132, 15706 | 137312 |
| Modeller | Portal pages could not be copied on a Mac |
Fixed an issue in Portal designer where configurators on a Mac could not copy a portal page. On Windows, configurators copy a page by holding Ctrl while they drag it, but macOS reserves Ctrl and click for right-click. On a Mac, configurators now hold Option while they drag the page to copy it, which matches the workflow designer. Windows continues to use Ctrl. A page can now also be copied when the portal contains only one page. |
137606 | |
| ODS | Collapsing the Individual Details section of a person left some fields visible |

On large environments, this reindexing caused timeouts. Descendant work items are now reindexed only when the name changes, and then only their inherited participant details are updated.
If a save affects more work items than the threshold in the Participant Sync global feature, a warning blade displays the number affected. The user can cancel, or confirm the save, and a confirmed save is recorded in the audit log.

| Fees |
Fees has had a major rewrite. A site upgrading from an earlier version of Fees has migrated data to review. Fee template elements used to reference goods and services by legacy id keys.
⇢ For full details, see Fees on the Issues Resolved tab. |
| Import/Export |
Configuration imports now restart Event Engine roles automatically. A successful import no longer asks whether to restart the roles.
