Guide to modeling ShareDo Portals

Using Portal Designer

The ShareDo portal designer enables you to create custom portals in the application using a set of pre-defined, configurable widgets. The portal designer can be accessed either from an individual work type or from the main modeller menu.

My site portal designer

The My Site portal designer is available in Modeller > Forms and views > Portal editor

This enables you to edit the My Site views for your application. This is your main workbench view and provides you with various views on the work you have in the system.

Different views can be created for different personas in the system.

Use the plus button at the top of the screen to create a new portal

Default view ('Home' page)

Configure the default view (or “home page”) to open when logging in by toggling the Default page button in the edit menu. In the example below, My Matters is set to default, and when Wendy logs in, they see the My Matters view.

Work Type Portal Designer

The work type portal designer is available from Modeller > Work types (open a work type) > Portal designer.

Note: if you are unable to see the Portal designer option in the left-hand menu, then you need to go to the features area of your work type and enable the Portal engine feature.

As with any work type configuration, it is always best practice to create your portal at the highest level possible in your work type hierarchy. For example, if I am creating a new set of work types for a real estate department at a law firm I may wish to create a high-level 'real estate template' work type (you can set the abstract flag to true so it isn't available for creation). Creating your portals and configuration at this level will allow it to be re-used for any work types underneath in the hierarchy (unless they have their own specific portal designed) - this makes for a system that is more consistent and easier to maintain.

You can reposition rows by dragging them to a new position or copy them by holding the Ctrl key down while dragging them.

You can design unlimited portals at both the workbench and work type levels. For each portal you design you have the following configuration options:

OPTION DESCRIPTION
Portal Style

We currently support 2 portal styles.

  • Left Hand Navigation
  • Hero Navigation

You can also change these styles if required through custom portal stylers.

Navigation

For each of your portals, you will define a navigation scheme; this consists of pages and categories.

Menus

Menus are defined across all portals but can be personalised by persona.

Pages and Master Pages

There are two types of pages on a portal.

  • Master page – this defines the common widgets that are present on all of your pages e.g. navigation, breadcrumbs and so on.
  • Portal Pages – these define the actual pages that your users view.

Both of these pages are made up of Nav Zones and Widgets.

Widgets

A page is composed of widgets. Each widget has its own “designer” for you to configure its look and feel and behaviour. ShareDo contains an extensive library of widgets or you can create your own.

For example, the Key Facts widget enables you to pull in data and create rich formatted data widgets.
